Functional English

The BA degree in Functional English, offered at undergraduate level by the department ,is a course in arts stream and aims at equipping the learners linguistically competent to meet their personal, professional and academic needs in English at global standards. The prime objective of the course is to provide the learners ample exposure to the functional side of different aspects of the English Language-lexical, structural, oral, conversational ,and suprasegmental- to help them acquire a commendable level of mastery over all the macro skills of English in a practical sense.

Entry criterion to Functional English
Those candidates who are “Eligible for Higher Studies” as per the Higher Secondary Examination or a pass in the equivalent examination is the minimum criteria for admission to degree courses, unless otherwise specified. Candidates qualified in the annual examination held during the March of the preceding academic year or its preceding supplementary / annual examinations alone are eligible for admission. However, candidates who have qualified the HSE and VHSE of the Government of Kerala under ‘SAY’ scheme and Compartmental Examination of CBSE are also eligible for admission to first year degree courses in the same academic year. This course is apt for those students who have aptitude and specific taste in acquiring practical and professional skills in English Language and associated areas. After completing the course, the candidates can opt a variety of jobs ranging from teaching to positions in BPOs & KPOs. They can also pursue higher degree courses in the respective subject.
